Rights Statement, Copyright Notice & Disclaimer

Alaska State Library’s images in Alaska’s Digital Archives may be printed or downloaded by individuals, schools or libraries for personal use, study, research or classroom teaching without permission. Any fair use, as defined by copyright law, is acceptable.

Permission to reproduce these images in any other form* must be obtained in writing from the Alaska State Library.

The Alaska State Library reserves the right to refuse an application if it is apparent that the proposed use would violate copyright law or compromise the authenticity of the material as an historical document.

Applicants must assume full responsibility for questions of potential copyright violation in their use of Alaska State Library’s digital images.

Copyright of historical archival collections may be difficult or impossible to determine. The Alaska State Library would like to hear from any copyright owners who are not properly identified in Alaska’s Digital Archives.

Information on copyright is available at the Library of Congress and Stanford University.

* Includes but is not limited to: electronic or paper publishing, World Wide Web sites, film, DVD, CD, video, exhibits, interior design, product presentation or advertising.

Note: Prepayment is required for orders involving service fees.

Requesting Non-digitized Photos

If you are requesting a photo from the Historical Collections that is not included in the Digital Archives, you need to start the request process by email or by calling 465.2925. Please include the name of the image and it's corresponding number, if possible.
